2010-11 Erdös

Aquest curs 2010/2011 la Facultat de Matemàtiques i Estadística (FME) dedica el curs a Paul Erdös (1913-1996). La Biblioteca de l'FME, per donar suport a aquesta iniciativa, presenta el Web Erdös amb l'objectiu principal de complementar bibliogràfica i documentalment les activitats sobre aquest matemàtic que es realitzin a la facultat.

Reconegut universalment pel seu talent a l'hora de proposar problemes interessants i per la seva genialitat en resoldre'ls, Paul Erdös és considerat un dels matemàtics més prolífics en publicacions matemàtiques, només superat per Leonhard Euler. Erdös va publicar al voltant de 1.500 publicacions i va col·laborar amb més de 500 coautors. La seva passió eren les matemàtiques, tal com deia:

Entre les aportacions d'Erdös a les matemàtiques cal destacar les relacionades amb la combinatòria, teoria de grafs, teoria de nombres, la teoria de Ramsey i l'aplicació del mètode probabilístic.

L' Espai Erdös és un espai que la Biblioteca de l'FME ha reservat, durant el curs 2010/11, per exposar llibres i altres documents referents al matemàtic.
