The School

The Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics (FME), founded in 1992 and located on the Diagonal Sud Campus of the UPC, offers a close and personalized environment, with a strong relationship between faculty and students. The School provides facilities such as study rooms and its own library, supporting both group work and individual study. Students play an active role in improving academic quality and participate in decision-making processes. In addition, university life at the FME is dynamic and diverse, with a wide range of cultural, sports and social activities.

The School participates in student exchange programmes through several mobility schemes such as LLP Erasmus and SICUE-Séneca. These exchanges are carried out with universities in fifteen different countries thanks to the more than fifty bilateral agreements established by the FME. Nearly 25% of FME graduates have completed at least one semester abroad, and every year around twenty international students come to study at the School.

MATHEMATICS STUDIES

The Mathematics studies at the FME, created in 1992, have become a programme of excellence, with high academic standards and demanding training. They attract some of the best secondary school records and maintain a demand that exceeds the number of available places, something unique in Spain. They are also the preferred option for students in the excellence programme of the CFIS.

Currently, the FME offers the Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, the international Master in Advanced Mathematics and Mathematical Engineering and the PhD in Applied Mathematics.

Graduates enjoy an excellent reputation and work in a wide range of sectors such as research, education, banking, insurance, industry, ICT, consultancy and the biosanitary sector.

STATISTICS STUDIES

With the adaptation to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), UPC and UB joined efforts to jointly offer Statistics studies, taking advantage of each university’s strengths: ICT, computer science and operations research at UPC; and economics, social sciences and biostatistics at UB.

Currently, two interuniversity degrees are offered: the Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, with the first two academic years at UB and the last two at the FME, and the Master's Degree in Statistics and Operations Research, professionally oriented. In addition, UPC offers the PhD in Statistics and Operations Research.

Statistics graduates have a high employability rate and are highly sought after in sectors such as services, industry, the biosanitary sector, banking, ICT, research, education, marketing and consultancy.
