2008-09 Noether

Com en anys anteriors, la Facultat de Matemàtiques i Estadística (FME) ha dedicat el curs 2008/09 a un matemàtic eminent. Aquest curs es dedica a una de les matemàtiques més importants del segle XX Emmy Noether (1882-1935). A la lliçó inaugural del curs Mina Teicher (Directora de l’Emmy Noether Research Institute for Mathematics -Minerva Center- de Tel Aviv) va esmentar que Emmy Noether era el seu model a imitar per tres raons:

"Firstly, she is one of the most important mathematicians and physicists of the 20th century. Secondly, she fought to be a scientist in time when women were not allowed to be one. And thirdly, she was a leader who created a School and paved the way to success for her students and followers." Teicher, M. Emmy Noether: her heritage. La Biblioteca de l'FME, per donar suport a aquesta iniciativa, presenta el Web Emmy Noether amb l'objectiu principal de complementar bibliogràfica i documentalment les activitats sobre aquesta matemàtica que es realitzin a la facultat.

L' Espai Noether és un espai que la Biblioteca de l'FME ha reservat, durant el curs 2008/09, per exposar llibres i altres documents referents a Emmy Noether.
